The Göreme Open Air Museum is a monastic complex with over 30 rock-hewn churches, chapels, and monasteries dating from the 10th to 12th centuries. The frescoes inside have survived a thousand years of earthquakes, iconoclasm, and time — and their colours remain vivid.
